Facebook Signs Popular Game Streamer, Delivering Another Blow to Twitch - PCMag

Twitch has lost another streamer. Jeremy 'Disguised Toast' Wang announced that he's joining Facebook.

It's the latest departure for Twitch, which lost Ninja in August and Shroud in October. Both streamers left for Mixer, which is owned and operated by Microsoft. Though he's not joining them at Mixer, Disguised Toast should still be able to generate large viewership on Facebook due to its global reach.

That appears to be true as, in less than 24 hours, Disguised Toast's first stream generated more than 2.6 million views. Disguised Toast typically plays Hearthstone, Teamfight Tactics, and League of Legends. His first stream featured Hearthstone, and many fans spent the duration of it asking about his decision to exit Twitch and join Facebook.

He told CNN that several streaming platforms made offers, but Facebook had the "most explosive potential." Twitch likely wanted to retain Disguised Toast, but competitors are trying to build a roster of talent with large audiences. It's unclear how far Mixer and YouTube were in this particular race. All platforms battle to attract viewers that generate advertising revenue, and viewers only show up if there are entertaining, engaging streamers.

Pre-recorded clips from Disguised Toast will remain on platforms such as YouTube. Live content, however, is exclusive to Facebook. Given this signing, it wouldn't be a surprise if Facebook targets other streaming heading into 2020.

To celebrate the news, Disguised Toast says he'll send all donations during his first month of streaming on Facebook to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
